History Of Giza Pyramid Complex

This pyramid complex was built during 2550 to 2490 BC during the reign of Pharaohs Khufu, his son Khafre and his grandson Menkaure.

Khufu began the Giza Pyramid complex away from Dahsur and Saqqara. The tomb of Khufu however is the largest pyramid of all. The myths and facts of construction of these Pyramids and of course of himself King Khufu is the biggest heart stopping and appealing secret that draws attention not to pyramid of Khufu but all pyramids.

Later, Khufu’s son Khafre followed his father and built his tomb in the background plus some other monuments like Great Sphinx structure.  But it was not to the height of Great Pyramid of Khufu.

Now Menkaure built his tomb in the front but didn’t finish. However, his son Shepseskaf finished the project but made his tomb as a modest mastaba in Saqqara.

Khufu’s Pyramid Complex:  A king pyramid with limestone casing, a damaged valley temple, a causeway that led to Mortuary temple. 3 queen pyramids and 5 boat pits that contained ships 2 of which are restored now.

Khafre’s Pyramid Complex: A king pyramid with limestone casing, a valley temple and mortuary temple with statues of Khafre, Sphinx temple, causeway, 5 boat pits and a small pyramid.

Menkaure’s Pyramid Complex: A king pyramid without limestone casing, valley temple and mortuary temple with statues of Menkaure and 3 queen pyramids. Later a small temple was added to valley temple.

Great Sphinx: The mythical creature known to be guardian animal called Sphinx was built in the Khafre pyramid complex. The wonder animal has women face with lion’s body. Even if the nose is bit trifled along the time, the structure is the bewitching and beguiling marvel of Egypt Pyramids.

Mastabas: Many lesser royal such as wives, sons, daughters, ministers etc. are found to be buried in cemeteries known as mastabas near these king pyramids.
